"Udderly" Amazing

While I didn't take this picture, this is what the sky looked like tonight when I went out for my walk. I really wrestled with going back up to my apartment, getting my car keys, going back down to my car, getting out my camera, walking back out front of my apartment, taking a picture of the sky, going back up to my apartment, and then back out on to the road for my walk. That felt like too much work. So I decided instead to walk and stare straight up at the sky and enjoy it as the sun turned each bump in the clouds pink then purple then dark blue then gray. It was gorgeous. On the way home from work (6:30pm - which is my new "early" night, each Tuesday) a storm came rumbling through the southern half of Houston, dropping the temperature and getting everything just wet enough to be fresh - the greens were greener, the browns richer and the humidity in the air, comined with the fading light, literally turned the air a golden color. It was wonderful. But by the time I finished my four mile walk, I was just a tad bit wet - the rain also raised the humidity - but my skin and sinuses loved it!

I didn't take this picture either. While I was in Denver, several tornadoes went ripping through some communities to the north of town and did a significant amount of damage. This is not a picture of these communities, but is a shot of an old barn somewhere in Iowa taken the same day the tornadoes went through Colorado. I love the drama of this shot - it captivates me. I could stare at it for hours. I love summer and I love summer thunderstorms even more. While walking tonight I was pondering the sheer enormity of the bank of clouds above me - how it's sheer size dwarfs me in comparison, how it's grandeur is beyond my perspective and understanding, how it's built by forces I can't see, exists for mere hours and then will be gone again. Instead of it making me feel small or insignificant, I felt just the opposite; God created those clouds, those sights, those sunsets from His own creativity, for my, other's and His enjoyment. And enjoy them I did.
