Mississippi Man & Louisiana Woman

My friends Scott and Vy were in town for the weekend and we had the chance to get together for breakfast this morning. Since they moved to Mississippi/New Orleans, I don't get to see them very often. Scott and I used to work together at the VA here in Houston and Vy used to work across the street with Baylor College of Medicine - the two are connected through research. After Scott finished his post-graduate work, he accepted a position at the Biloxi, Mississippi VA Hospital and Vy got accepted to Tulane University in New Orleans for her Ph.D. work in Sociology. So they both up and left me an moved towards the east. There is an older country song they both love cause it perfectly captured their living situations - "Mississippi Man & Louisiana Woman" - Scott was living in Biloxi and Vy was living in New Orleans. They have since moved into some town that's more in the middle.

This shot is a throwback to Scott's and my time at the VA. Just about every morning he and I and another coworker, Amy, would gather in one of our offices and drink coffee, talk, and interpret each other's dreams. Well, Scott and I both left the VA at the same time, so we took a picture of he and I talking over coffee in interested, conversation poses that we then emailed to Amy so she could put them on her monitor everymorning and pretend to have coffee with us.

This shot really has nothing to do with Scott and Vy, except for I liked the way this shot looked. After breakfast the three of us walked around The Village to spend a little more time chatting. The comment was made that only in America would we stop to take a picture of the garbage in an alley. Guilty.
