Oh what a day

Pam turned 50! Well, actually she turned fifty this past Monday, but the big celebration, her jubilee as she put it, was last night. It was a great evening that brought together a fun mix of people from varied walks of life. My gift to her was taking over 100 pictures of the evening that I will then compile into a photobook from Snapfish or Picaboo. I think she had a great time.

Pam's mom, older sister Mary Jo and Pam.

Paul and Sunny Gallegos. I get to see them about twice a year. They were part of the crew who moved out here from Ablquerque to help start the church. They live out 290 and Hwy. 6, so they might as well still live in ABQ.

Me, Leslie Fay, Angel Bradley, Kim McDonald and Tim.

Not really sure she was on the guestlist. I'm not completely clear on the story behind her, but one of the guests brought her and jokingly had her make a rush for the M&Ms. I thought it made for a fun and quirky picture.

This is Lankford Market Cafe, a tiny dump of a burger place in Midtown that I never knew existed. My friend Tim and I went to check it out for lunch and were thrilled to find a place that we hadn't been before and actually had some character. It was a rare gorgeous Houston weekend, so we sat outside and got their Houston-famous cheesburger and tater-tots. God bless tater tots. Inside, the floor was uneven and the ceiling warbbly. Just standing still I got dizzy. it was great.

We weren't alone at lunch. The birds were quite brave. Fortunately they weren't the big annoying grackles that flock to Houston in the winter and spring.

This is a little bit of my artistic side coming through. At a table across the way from me sat this coffee-can-turned-planter. I loved the yellow of the can with the green of the leaves, the purple of the flowers and the red and blue of the two cars in the background. It just felt like we weren't in Houston anymore when while we ate there.

As part of the photo album I'm putting together for Pam's birthday, I've been driving around town trying desperately to find street addresses that are "1958" for the year she was born. If there are any in Houston, they must be out in the burbs. But while driving around, I stumbled upon these spectacular boogenvilla (sp?) that formed an almost tunnel over the sidewalk. I love boogenvilla. (of course if I loved them enough I'd learn how to spell it, right?)
