A Feast with my Friends

Last night was a celebratory send-off for some friends I met through Susan, Zuzana and Nicolas from Leon, France. They had been living here in Houston for the past two years through his job with Deloitte & Touche (sp?). I only met them one month ago and we all "clicked". After some wonderful hors'douvres at Jim and Susan's (dark chocolate covered pistachios, an amazing soft garlic cheese, crackers, dried strawberries, mimosas, etc.), our merry band of six headed over to the Daily Review for a great meal on a great evening. The weather here has been pretty stinkin' good lately and we were able to eat out in the garden -sans mosquitos! There in the mix of the photo is the "all-american-bottle-of-wine" we got to send them off with a final American experience. The wine was from Idaho...Nicolas described it as "not bad". If you'll notice in the foreground there, his glass remained untouched. Moral: don't buy wine from Idaho.

I'm pretty good at the "self-portrait"-thing. Got everybody except Nicolas.

From left to right: Philippa, Susan, Jim, Zuzana and Nicolas.

Just a shot I liked. I love the candlelight behind the glass with so much condensation. I was able to wring out the little napkin underneath it later in the evening. I love humidity. Judge me if you must.

Zuzana and Nicolas with the American flag waving proudly overhead :-) They just found out they're pregnant. Well, not right in that moment, but earlier in the week. They're going home with quite the souvenier!

Philippa keeps us all in stitches. Her ability to adopt any accent and deliciously tell any story keeps us all entertained for hours. She's some stiff competition, but I readily relinquish the floor to her :-)

Just a great shot of Philippa. She hails from Scotland and has that wonderful brogue accent. She's the one who is responsible for my nickname in this circle - Ricky (arrived at because of her annunciation of my name, "derRICK").

Below is a picture she took of me cause I kept complaining about how long my hair was getting and everyone else kept saying how they liked it, particularly how it was at that particular moment. So we captured the moment.
