Tea Party

Went to my very first Tea Party Rally tonight. Didn't think I was going to be able to make the big one in downtown Houston, but a friend and past-coworker told me about one down in Clear Lake so I met her there. While we were sitting listening to the speeches, she spotted a woman holding this homemade sign and I just had to get a picture of it. I think it is the simplest, most clear message there is :-) And I'm certain it stands for "What The Federalists?" or "What The Freedom?".

While it was nice to be a part of something big, I found the event itself kinda ineffective. Yes, there was a news helicopter hovering overhead, and yes, there were several thousand people there. But just standing in a group hoping to get on the news isn't going to do anything to bring about change. I agreed with one of the local state reps who said if there is a politician who is listening to you and stands for what you believe in, you have to do more to support them than just stand in a rally. So I am going to be making a concerted effort to find at least one politician who stands for my values, Republican or Democrat, that I can put my time and money behind.

I'm quite sure it will be a Republican. ;)
