Finally! I found a copy of A.W. Tozer's "The Pursuit of God". I had been shelving the desire to read it at the back of my mind for several months now and recently had that desire bumped to the front of my mind when I saw it yet again on a suggested reading list on John Eldridge's blog. So I set out to find a copy, checking two different Half Price book stores on opposite sides of town. Nothing. From there I asked Pam & Mike if they by any chance had a copy. Nope. Next I checked with Jessica (in the post below this one) whose husband is in seminary. Of all people, I thought for sure he would have it, and Jessica assured me that he did. But when over at their house after dinner, we couldn't find the book as they had just had some new built-in bookshelves installed and many of their collection were still finding their organized way onto the shelves. What was frustrating is I could picture the copy my mom had on it's place on her little bookshelf in her bedroom. But that's in Albuquerque.
So determined to stick to my budget, I turned to the Houston Public Library, checking my local branch in the Heights. No luck. They didn't have it, but I could have it sent to that branch from the main branch but it would take several days. So I filled out a hold request on their computer system and waited. Then this morning I awoke to an email stating it was in! Hooray! I have to smile at the pursuing I had to do in order to read a classic about pursuing God. So far, I'm loving the book and find it comforting that many of Tozer's complaints about the Church and Society still hold true today.
So feeling gleeful that I had my free book in hand, I went to my favorite Starbucks to sit outside and begin reading it while sipping my free "triple grande no whip mocha". Yes, I said free :-) A week or two ago I had written Starbucks complaining about their employees beginning to shut down the store 45 minutes before closing time, leaving me to feel like I was intruding on them and an inconvenience to their hasty departure. In response, corporate sent me two coupons for any beverage of my choice. Sweet. With drink in hand, I started settling in to Pursuit when I found this in the center of the book. I laughed outloud at the coincidence. I'm assuming this was the previous "Derek" who checked out the same copy, "Derrick Pitts". Hmmmm.... I wonder if he's on Facebook.

Your pursuit of this book is a pursuit of God. So you are already doing what Tozer wrote aboout without having opened the book. Starbucks - Free Drink, Library Free Book, Your Pursuit of God - Priceless!!
