A Walk In the Woods

I have lived in the same apartment for the last 11 years, right next to the city's biggest park, Memorial Park. Part of the park complex is the Nature Center which is at most two miles down the road, and of which I have never been to - till today.

The first "stop" I came to was the "Swamp" as they called it. There are minnows in the center of this shot. Reminded me of being a boy in Ohio and spending HOURS at the creek behind our house.

This is about as much color as we get in Houston. Most of our trees do not lose their leaves, and those that do dont do it till much later in the year than the rest of the country, i.e. December!

I just loved how the pine needles fell on these thin branches... making it look like the tree was wearing jewelry.

This poor little guy was hiding under a piece of bark I peeled off. I don't imagine he was very happy with me as yesterday in Houston the temp was 80 and then today it was 55. Stupid bi-polar weather!

That darker blur in the center of the picture is actually supposed to be a turtle. There was an even bigger one a little further out in the lake, but my little camera's zoom isn't that good.
