I wanted desperately to sleep in this morning. I had gone to bed with the sincere belief that it was going to be one of my best nights sleeps in a very long time. I was wrong. I feel as though I never completely fell asleep, aware of every toss and every turn. I kept believing that at any minute I would finally roll into a deep satisfying slumber. Finally at 6:30 I abandoned all hope and woke up. Boo.
So after a few tasks around the house, I grabbed my laptop and decided to come to Starbucks. While locking my apartment door I saw a neighbor across the courtyard in his suit with his Bible in hand. I of course knew he was on his way to church, but wondered what thought of me was crossing his mind as I stood there in shorts and sweatwhirt with a computer in my hand. I figured he was judging me, thinking me a heathen, never knowing that I went to church last night. It's funny the things we project on to those around us, like my still resident belief that on Sunday morning you're supposed to go to church - at least to look like a good Christian. Truth is, my neighbor probably didn't even give me a thought. Just shows how narcisistic I can be :-) Why wouldn't my neighbor be thinking about me???
So I work my way to my favorite Starbucks and on approach asked the Lord to please save me my favorite seat at the bar in the corner window. Last Sunday I'd attempted to blog at this store, but it was way tooo packed so I moved on to another. After my little request, I actually felt my anxiety increase and the desire to park and race into the store bubble to the surface. So much for trusting God :-) And there was no need for my doubt...there, directly under the orange hanging lamps sat my favorite spot, waiting for me. I got my Grande Vanilla Americano and Mixed Berry Muffin and promptly sat down to begin writing.
While getting settled into my perch, this jolly fellow showed up right outside the window. His owner saw me trying to take his picture and got him to cooperate and pose. Nice people do still exist!
