The whole law program culminates in the participants being able to try their cases in a real courthouse. So at 6:30 in the morning, Jim and I arrive at the county courthouse downtown to make sure everything is good to go before the participants arrive at 7:30. For the first time EVER, the guards remembered who we were, actually knew we were coming, and already had all the courtrooms open and the lights turned on. This was BY FAR the smoothest and best ABA law program either Jim or I have ever experienced. We were a little nervous it meant something horrible was going to happen on the trip home.
While checking out all the courtrooms ahead of time, I noticed this robe and sticky note hanging on the judges door behind his bench. You probably can't make out what it says, but it reads, "Tie Straight?". HA!
The Denver county courthouse is a wonderful, old building - like courthouses are supposed to be. I stood and talked to the security guard a bit before participants began arriving and he told me some pretty fun ghost stories about the place :-)
I forgot who this guy was...a past mayor, I believe. I just like the color and light contrast.
And on this one I just liked the angles, lines and lighting.
And here's Carrie walking down the hall. We were making the rounds of all the courtrooms to make sure they were on schedule and doing what they were supposed to be doing. Sometimes attorneys get a little long winded - hard to believe, I know.
Jim and I did very well all week to wear different outfits - until the last day. I was sitting down in the lobby at 5:45am when he came off the elevator wearing the same thing: blue and white striped shirts, red ties and blue slacks. We both also wore our black framed glasses, even though we'd both worn contacts the previous days. Again, oh well.
And here's Jim, Carrie, Anita and me in our farewell shot at the end of the program. Anita was really the lady in charge and she and Jim ran the program.
After the program ended, Michelle picked me up at the hotel and we went back to her place to drop off my stuff. From there we met Jeff and Tricia for dinner in Cherry Creek at the Milwaukee Tavern. From there we walked around a bit and then settled in for an absolutely gut-busting time at Starbucks. I have not laughed that hard in MONTHS and man did I need to!!
Here's me and my continuous chin wiping away tears I was laughing so hard.
Jeff laughing so hard he could hardly breathe. I wish you all could have been there to know what we were laughing about. But Jeff and Tricia are probably glad you weren't ;-)
Sick isn't it? I'd been making fat and pregnancy jokes all evening and sticking my gut out. While walking around after dinner we came across this neon sign and I just had to get my picture taken. How's that for motivation to hit the gym????
This chicken with sneakers on made me think of "Chicken Run".
The glass reads "Man Beer". We finished off the evening at Bull and Bush behind Michelle's apartment to have a drink or two, down a dessert or two, and watch the Nuggets lose what was game two. (technically game three, but their second loss).
