Alright, alright! I'll blog! There just hasn't been much to blog about the past few weeks. I'm having to dig deep. And there just hasn't been much to be inspired by either. I thought I was on to something yesterday when a friend and I went to the new Freebirds by my Target. It's a build-your-own-burrito place that is hippie themed. In all of their stores they have some character busting out of the wall either on a motorcycle or roller coaster car. This one has the Statue of Liberty, both on the van and inside the store.
This was a new addition I hadn't noticed at the other stores...Pot Brownies! What you can't see is that it looks like it was baked in a pot :-)
At lunch I decided I'd go ahead and do a post I'd been thinking about for a while. A few months ago the Houston city council passed a law banning inflatable characters on top of car dealerships - they feel they're too distracting - as if billboards every 10 feet isn't. So for a while now I've been thinking about driving around and getting shots of all the different inflatables... so I handed Tim the keys to my car and we hit 45 to start shooting. These Presidential busts are at the interchange of 45 and I-10 - and the artist's stuido is right next to my Target. You name the President, he has a bust. They're about 15 feet tall.
So here was the problem with my inflatables idea: it's apparently too windy. You can just make out a guy on a skateboard above the "Sketchers" sign. He's leaning waaaaaay back. All the car dealers along 45 were either out of business or had taken their inflatables down. Bummer. Perhaps another weekend?
