Nuevo Mehico

Mmmm...sopapillas....blaaahhh. Gotta love those New Mexican sopapillas!! Only in NM do they give them to you as PART of your meal, not some add-on dessert you've got to pay for separately like in Houston. I met my good friend Gloria (whom I've known since 6th grade) at Gardunos for lunch today...out on the westside of town which has completely changed since I grew up out there.

And this is the beef stuffed sopapilla I ordered. I had to get the green chili sauce on the side in case it was too hot for me to eat, like it had been the other day at Weck's. I'm truly a Texas wuss now - having to order my green chili on the side :-(

And this is just a little shot of Gardunos while I sat waiting for Glo. I like the garishness with which they decorate. It's so over the top!

I liked the view of the Sandias in the side mirror of my dad's truck. It has yet to get above freezing the last two days, but the snow on the face of the mountain keeps melting.

And this is my poor nephew, Bradley, who has been sick since Christmas morning. Turns out he has Strep and has been throwing up a lot and been in a lot of stomach pain. Melinda took him to the doctor again this morning (Sunday) and they put him on a different anti-biotic since they're thinking he was allergic to the last one. Poor guy...we've all had our times of spending Christmas sick. I remember when I was about his age I got sick on our Christmas trip to Phoenix. My grandmother was "fragile", and even though I only had an ear infection and was on anti-biotics, I was forced to stay at my cousins house alone for Christmas Eve. My dad eventually came back with a plate of food for me, but there I was, all alone and miserable on Christmas Eve. Then the next morning the "family" feigned to let me around them to open presents, but I had to wear a surgical mask. Let me tell you how much fun that was!! But I clearly am over it and no longer have any feeling s about it. I'm certain Bradley will have similar, non-scarring memories of his sick Christmas as well :-)

How fun... I love all your NM updates. The food has my mouth watering. Good thing Mom and I are making her famous posole, along with tamales and my chile rellenos. I might have to make sopapillas, after seeing your pic. :)
