I can't believe it's been two weeks since I last blogged. And I'm not really sure what I'm going to blog about today - I just have this feeling like I'm supposed to blog because it's been so long. But really, nothing, and I mean nothing, has been going on. Above is a picture of my feet on Friday night. Tim and Pam came over after work and we watched "Smart People" - we, however, were not for having watched it. It wasn't that great, though Pam said she enjoyed it more than I seemed to. Periodically I'd hit pause and switch over to NBC to see if Phelps won his seventh gold medal. We missed the swim but we saw him on the podium so that was good enough.
Saturday arrives and so does a torrential downpour - right at the time I'm going to meet an old coworker and her husband for lunch. You can barely make it out, but the water is up over the curb and the IDIOT driver in front of me kept deciding to stop in the middle of the deep parts. It only dumped horrendously for about 20 minutes and by the time I got to Chili's it pretty much stopped. Typical Houston rain. It did drop the temperature into the high seventies, which is unheard of here in August. My friend Michelle in Denver said it was even colder there and that it was snowing in the mountains. Yuck. It was good to see Amy and Maricio, especially since they were extatic to announce that they were pregnant. I hardly ever see them anymore since they migrated out to the burbs, but they've just sealed their fate with offspring and I'll probably never see them again. But good for them :-) They, of course, are very happy about it.
And here's me. At Starbucks. On Sunday. I've taken up having to come out to wifi'd places to get a connection. The neighbor I'd been coasting on apparently moved away and all my immediate neighbors very wisely have their connections secured. Bummer for me, though. I did always find it ironic that the internet connection I was surfing for free was called "Steelers". So I started out outside trying to blog but the air was so still the humidity finally got to me. If there'd been even a slight breeze it would have been doable. We got another downpour this afternoon. Tim and I had gone to see "Tropic Thunder" and when we came out we had to wait for a while for it to let up some. It kinda made me wish we'd stayed behind the ticket-taker and snuck into another movie (there's that "steelers" theme again). But we didn't. Instead we stood around with a bunch of other people and I made fun of some girls shoes. A couple standing nearby overheard me and were laughing at her as well. I can't describe how hideous her shoes were. Do you remember those boots from the 80's that were black leather and were loose and baggy around the ankles? Well this girl essentially had those, except, and this is a big except, the heel was cut out and the toes were cut out, sort of like sandals. And did I mention they were studded? Can you picture them? Ugh. I think she knew we were laughing at her.
This is the view from my first perch here at the 'Bucks. That's the other Starbucks there across the street. I love this spot. Commercialism comforts me. Sad, isn't it? More like scary.
This is a picture of what I was doing this time last year. That's Jeff and Tricia's guest bedroom and I had gone up there to visit for the weekend. At the time Southwest Airlines had a sale for $100 roundtrip. I could barely drive to Dallas for that. They always take such good care of me when I go up there - several trips to Fadi's Mediterranean Cuisine and multiple more to various Starbucks around the DFW metroplex. I enjoy going to visit them. I dope myself up on multiple anti-histamines because of their two cats and then the three of us laugh and cry and encourage each other. Or mock each other and the decisions we've made in the past. But whatever works, we're great friends. But that hospitality died earlier this month. Yup. They sold their house. And it was a great house. J&T's dream is to get back to Denver and they announced earlier this summer their goal was to return in February or March of next year. They put their house on the market (they're real estate agents afterall) and 21 days later it sold, much to their surprise. They're still waiting till next year to make the final move, but in the meantime they've moved in with Jeff's mom - so I don't think retreating to Dallas is going to be an option for me anymore. And then they're going to go and abandon me even further by moving to Colorado.
And here's a picture of what I was doing this time TWO years ago (God bless digital cameras and computer storage!). I don't remember what the three of us had done this particular day, but who really cares, cause we're at a most magical place, THE CHOCOLATE BAR!! That's Kim on the left and Angel in the middle. I'll probably get some email from Angel on Monday saying how she doesn't like the way she looks, but TOUGH! The picture stays! :-) I still had my beard back then...which means I'd probably just gotten back from the cruise. Man that was a fun trip. So relaxing.
Angel told me that I'd had something in my teeth, so after trying to suck it out with my tongue, I took a picture of my teeth to see if I'd gotten it out. I had. And I apparently needed to trim my nose hair as well.
