July the Five

I had the urge to get out of town yesterday, Independence Day, but couldn't get anyone to go with me. So instead I wound up going to Galveston today with my friend Leslie who likes to tan as much as I do. We got down to the island about 11, a little later than is optimal, but still in time to get a good spot on the beach and set up camp. This gentlemen floating above came with his family a short time after. I got a kick out of his float-y, looking like a halo around his head as he bobbed up and down in the surf. The most interesting part about it was he was blind. His wife led him out there and got him all set up to float near the shore. I'm assuming they were in good moods this day, cause if he'd pissed her off she could have set him floating further out near the riptides :-)

And I did something today I haven't done in YEARS....I had a snow cone! I had to eat it fast cause it was melting about as fast as I could shovel it in my mouth!

And just a parting shot of my view from my perch. Galveston is by far one of the ugliest beaches I've about ever seen and as a general rule I hate going. But today was really quite enjoyable and I may find myself making more trips there before the summer is done.
